About us

Here we wanted to take the time to give you a little culture mixed with some story telling to learn about your creators of THE RELIEF ROOM!

In the summer of 2014, a trip to the Philippines is where it all began. During a day trip to see the Floating Gardens somewhere between Binan and Tagaytay, we stumbled upon a unique set-up. It was this crazy spot where you can pick out things from several different piles of discards – to smash?!? I thought it was comical, so why not? After the first plate came crashing down onto a cinder block wall in a million pieces, I was hooked. We gave it a couple more rounds and left feeling completely giddy. Who in their right mind would do this? Why?

As I got to know more about the culture and the people I learned one thing is above all else. Community. Turns out they are resilient beyond belief and the people have found ways to survive in an extremely impoverished country. There is nothing that they discard without finding at least 1, 2, or 13 uses for it before it ends up in the junk yard. I found it inspiring in the most unexpected way. But at the time, THE RELIEF ROOM brain child still hadn’t been born yet.

It was about 3 years later it all came together. I was working as a General Manager after an exceptionally long day, and I was at my wits end. If anyone has had experience in Management – it has it’s good and bad days to say the least (I know you feel me out there). I remember sitting in my car after pulling into the driveway and my mind began to wander. I recalled that day I got to smash a bunch of plates and so desperately wanted to go back to let out my frustration that the day. That’s when it hit me!

WHY NOT BRING IT HERE?!?

That was the day this place became a vision. A vision to help my community and help others. Since then, a simple idea has transformed into a concept. You see, we want to give you more than just another “Rage Room”. We want to help you see things differently as well! It starts with shifting the mindset that we just throw out the old and buy the new. I want to help spark others to be more resourceful. I want to do my part in trying to take care of our Earth. I want to give you a place to honor your worst days, let loose, and produce a feeling of RELIEF. These are all the driving factors of who we are, what we are about, and why.
